Tattoo Stencils

It is always thought that the art of tattooing is a freehand work. But there are several tattoo artists that prefer tattoo stencils in order to make their tattoos. A tattoo stencil is actually a tool that helps a tattoo artist give a better look to their tattoos.

No one really knows from when the use of stencils was started. But it is of a great help to a tattoo artist. It is true that for a tattoo artist making a tattoo freehand like a painter shows his talent and credibility. But the truth is that making a tattoo design just with your hands slows the process alot. The use of stencils speeds of the process of tattooing. Hence a tattoo artist who uses tattoo stencils makes more money as he can speedily finish tattooing on one client.

The only function of tattoo stencils are to act as a guide to the tattoo artist. He can make the tattoo design using these stencils. Obviously with the help of the tattoo stencils, a more accurate design is made than a freehand. It reduces the mistakes too. The stencil ink is only temporary and is gone after a few washes.

There are mainly two types of tattoo stencils. One is the artist designed and other is commercial. The artist designed stencils are made up of the previously made designs by an artist. The commercial stencils are the ones that consist of hundreds of generic designs.
They are actually used as guides and are altered according to the tattoo artist depending on the design he is making.

Using a tattoo stencil is very simple. A copy of the tattoo is made on a copier and is sized down according to the client’s need. Later it is taken to a machine that makes a copy of it with ink and then it is transferred to the skin of the client. Gel is applied on the skin first and then the stencil is applied. Now the tattoo can be made.

The use of a tattoo stencil eases the process alot. It speeds up the process of tattooing. Moreover the finishing of the tattoo on the skin is much better with the use of tattoo stencils.
